Port Prince, 8 may (Prensa Latina) Haitian Senate ratified Eric Pierre as Prime Minister, after consulting for a week the proposal carried out by President Rene Preval.
In a session that took place Wednesday night, 17 Senators voted in favor of the report of the commission and two abstained.
"We have almost assumed our responsibility with the purpose of improving the situation of the population", legislator Evaliere Beauplan declared in an invitation to the Chamber of Deputies to accelerate the process in that instance.
Designated Prime Minister will be able to present its policy of government only after the vote of the two chambers of the Congress, in which parliamentarians will also have to pronounce themselves.
Former Head of government Jacques Edouard Alexis was dismissed on April 12, after the manifestations of protest for the high cost of living.
A group of 16 Senators emitted a vote of condemnation against Alexis and demanded a new program against the increase of prices of foods in the poorest country of the continent.
Pierre had been designated by Haitian President to head the government in 1997, but Parliament rejected the request.
